About PixelDrive
PixelDrive is the “brain child” of Me, Neil Magill. The development of PixelDrive was due to using it as my Major Project in my final year in University, this is my dissertation of sorts.
I am very enthusiastic about cars, how they work and how they drive. I spend far too much time looking up information on cars on the internet.
One other passion of mine is multimedia; I am very interested in web design and illustration. My degree course (BSc Hons Interactive Multimedia and Design) reflects this.
My final year of my degree required a “Major Project” to be developed. I thought this would be the ideal opportunity to incorporate two interests of mine in a single project.
When I was learning to drive I remember that many driving tutorial websites were not very clear in how they explained things, as well as how they illustrated manoeuvres.
While it would have been easier to develop a website based on my on thoughts and the advantages of other solutions, I wanted to create a concept that was a little different, but still reflected the main purpose of a driving website.
After speaking with my lecturer Mr Chris Murphy, he mentioned perhaps using an illustrative method called Pixel Art. I was aware of Pixel Art, however I was not fully aware of its capabilities or how to create detailed drawings using it. After quite a lot of research into Pixel Art, I agreed that it would be a very suitable solution, it would create a different concept compared to a conservative outlook that many other solutions have.
The development of this website has taught me a great deal in illustration and how, with research great solutions can be developed.
I plan to keep developing PixelDrive into a website that becomes a very popular resource for road users. I also hope to add more and more information on driving and some basic automotive care, of course all following the Pixel Art style.
