Basic Driving - Left Turn

The Left Turn is a relatively basic driving technique that is used regularly.

Using a set procedure for a left turn makes driving a lot safer for yourself and other road users. The main principle to follow is MSSM; Mirror, Signal, Speed and Manoeuvre.

A text version is below.

  1. Mirror - Check your mirrors and blind spots making sure it is safe for you to make your turn.
  2. Signal - Use your indicator to notify other road users of your intended direction of travel.
  3. Speed - Reduce your speed and lower your gears (second gear being ideal for most corners), as you have do so.
  4. Manoeuvre - Look into the corner and the surrounding areas making sure it is safe to turn the corner. If it is safe, turn the corner.
