Manoeuvres - Reverse Parking

Reverse Parking is another manoeuvre people avoid as you get rather close to other cars.

However mastering Reverse Parking is essential, as you will need to do it at some stage. It also gives you a great idea of the dimensions of your car, which should help you in other manoeuvres and day to day driving.

A text version is below.

  1. Using your indicator, pull up beside the car in front of the space you would like to reverse into.
  2. Checking the road is clear, select reverse and find your biting point.
  3. As you start to move and your car is level with the car on your left, give your steering wheel one full rotation anti clockwise.
  4. As the car moves try to line your car up with the front bumper of the car behind you, once you are lined up, straighten up your steering wheel and guide the car into the space.
  5. As your rear wheel gets quite close to the kerb and or the car behind you turn your wheel around one full rotation, clockwise.
  6. Watching you don’t clip the kerb or either of the two cars, try to bring your car in so it sits straight to the kerb.
  7. You may need to drive forwards and backwards to place yourself closer to the kerb. Obviously depending on what room you have.
